Independence day revived!

"If we dont tolerate among ourselves, how are we among the other nations?"

Hola! I'm a pirate, I'm going to concur your heart and soul and make you mine! Was playing with my msn display picture and just found out I could take pics with the webcam effects!! How noob. I love how my eye patch has a 'love' shape. hahaha! so childish i know. whatever.

Malaysia's 53rd Independence Day is just around the corner. and sadly, I've been hearing loads of issues on racism happening in Msia.. oh why really? Is it that hard to compromise and be little less selfish? I do agree, there's no way you can avoid racism. In the US, there's been racism among the whites and blacks but the government has given much attention to the minorities which I think its fair enough. In Msia? Priority goes to whom? well answerd, the majorities ie Bumiputras. What benefits do chinese and Indian get for being a citizen in Malaysia? Hmmm.. I may not have enough info to interpret what I've been saying and will be saying but from my point of view, man..I rather give up Malaysian citizenship for another country as we could get better benefits from them. Anyone would do that, why not?

But, this is not the point. we, non-malays have been living in Msia for 53 years or even more. We went through the struggles of not having much benefits and guess what? because we're raised and brought up in a multinational country with supportive family and friends, we stay on. For me, I do not want any of your bumiputra rights although I'm very much pleased if I'm gifted. but, with just some respect and justice I have no doubt Msia can strive towards a muchhhhh better country. I really dont care who are you, what race are you or where you're from or how you look but I'm hoping to see good leadership with much respect, morality and humanity taking charge of changing how people look upon each other. Race is not an issue, we're the same. Just because we have different characteristics doesn't mean it's the race, it's that only 1 human who has a problem!! As easy as just changing the way we think, we can change everything. But changing the way we think, takes effort and enormous persuasion. Lets start with you and I. Faith is still there for every soul being born out as a Malaysian.

The following article was taken by a friend of mine which was forwarded around in facebook.lol I find it rather inspiring.

This is a very good article from a younger generation and a great granddaughter of Tunku Abdul Rahman. A very well expressed opinion of how all Malaysians should be treated.

IF THIS IS THE VOICE OF YOUR YOUNGER GENERATION IN MALAYSIA , YOU WILL BE BLESSED.

Sharyn completed her Diploma in Advertising from Taylor's College, and then left motherland to pursue her BA degree majoring in Media Studies and Anthropology at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand. While waiting for her graduation in May 08, she interned briefly at M&C Saatchi Wellington, a global advertising firm. Upon returning to Malaysia, jobless and relieved of rent payments, Sharyn stumbled upon Wild Asia through The Star which sparked her interest to learn more about nature and environmental causes. Armed with a communications background, Sharyn works on the Wild Asia website and editorial, translating geek terms into laymen language, easily accessed and understood by visitors regardless of their backgrounds, be it scientific, business, the arts or just plain interested.
By The Tunku's Great Granddaughter

This is a great piece. She has all the qualities of her great grandfather. Tunku has reason to be proud of her!

Both my parents are Malay. My mum's heritage includes Chinese, Thai and Arab, while my dad is Minangkabau. Due to my skin colour, I am often mistaken for a Chinese.

I'm happy that I don't have the typical Malay look but I do get annoyed when people call me Ah Moi or ask me straight up "Are you Chinese or Malay"

Like, why does it matter? Before I used to answer "Malay" but now I'm trying to consciously answer Malaysian instead.

There's this incident from primary school that I remember till today. Someone told me that I will be called last during Judgement Day because I don't have a Muslim name. Of course, I was scared then but now that I'm older, I realise that a name is just a name. It doesn't define you as a good or bad person and there is definitely no such thing as a Muslim name. You can be named Rashid or Ali and still be a Christian.

I've heard of the 1Malaysia concept, but I think we don't need to be told to be united. We've come such a long way that it should already be embedded in our hearts and minds that we are united. Unfortunately, you can still see racial discrimination and polarisation. There is still this ethno-centric view that the Malays are the dominant group and their rights must be protected, and non Malays are forever the outsiders.

For the concept to succeed, I think the government should stop with the race politics. It's tiring, really. We grew up with application forms asking us to tick our race. We should stop painting a negative image of the other races, stop thinking about 'us' and 'them' and focus on 'we', 'our' and 'Malaysians'.

No one should be made uncomfortable in their own home. A dear Chinese friend of mine said to me once, "I don't feel patriotic because I am not made to feel like Malaysia is my home, and I don't feel an affinity to China because I have never lived there.

I know some baby Nyonya friends who can trace their lineage back hundreds of years. I'm a fourth generation Malaysian. If I am Bumiputra, why can't they be, too? Clearly I have issues with the term.

I think the main reason why we still can't achieve total unity is because of this 'Malay rights' concept. I'd rather 'Malay rights' be replaced by human rights. So unless we get rid of this Bumiputra status, or reform our views and policies on rights, we will never achieve unity.

For my merdeka wish, I'd like for Malaysians to have more voice, to be respected and heard. I wish that the government would uphold the true essence of parliamentary democracy. I wish for the people to no longer fear and discriminate against each other, to see that we are one and the same.

I wish that Malaysia would truly live up to the tourism spin of Malaysia truly Asia. Malaysians to lead - whatever their ethnic background. Only ONE NATIONALITY MALAYSIAN. No Malays, No Chinese, No Indians - ONLY MALAYSIANS. Choose whatever religion one is comfortable with.

Tired

"Being afraid will bring you nowhere, being a milquetoast will bring you nothing. Time is running out, what do you really want?"

Not everything stays the same all the time, time passes, knowledge changes, luck changes, people change, events change,  feelings change, etc.. The question is did it change for the better or worse?

Hi, i'm here to write about complaints again. how "unusual.." lol. no, At some point, I'm tired of uni, work, money, time, and everything. But alls well. I finally got employed by PieFace! nyumss. Love working there..i wish I had applied earlier. Plus, I only wish I had extra time. More time means, more work, more money, more time to enjoy :)))) and not forgetting more time for assignments! Time passes so quickly till the worries that you had in mind before was replaced with new worries. I cant even remember what worries I had before, or was it the same? lol! This is when blogging comes in handy, checking on histories and past posts.. When worries load up more and more, you tend to have greater short term memory. I'm not sure about you, but it's working on me and I hate it! :(

I'll be expecting many many outings with my girlfriends next month..and planning to go up to the mountains too! That's a whole load of fun part. But, on the other hand, I've  assignments and thesis presentation coming up. :( Parents wont be sponsoring me on any of my outings so urgh.. that's why I'm working. and work fills part of my time for uni work. How to enjoy, you tell me??? haha!

I think sleep is the best activity ever. Its the only time where doubts, fear, and worries just go *pooof* missing and unthinkable. lets just assume no bad dreams lol. everythings just purrrfect when u're asleep...Good night bloggy

Do you believe in fate?

"We only live once. Treasure now because you can never take a step back."

I was in shocked when a friend of mine was taken by angels today. I just got to know him this year.. which indeed, the memory of how we met is very clear. Although, I'm not very close to him, he's still a friend I mix with almost every week before I left to Aus. It was too shocking when I got the news. It was too fast when life just ended just like that. I'm sorry for all his love ones, I'm sorry for those who knew him for years, I'm sorry for those who knew him even just for a day. He doesn't deserve to leave us for what I know. There's so much for him in life.

But, you know what? I believe he's having a great time with angels up above, I believe God is his best friend. I believe he wants us to happy. I believe he wants us to go on with our lives. I believe this is how life is.

A walk to remember:

The day we met together with Jacq @ Rootz. It was a really random night. Haha. and I remember Chew saying "this guy, he's very cute" when we were waiting outside of his house. LOL

Jacq & I were talking and laughing about Ron. He was indeed a nice guy.
Me: Can you help me drink this shot?
Ron: If I get drunk, you're responsible to carry me back.
Me: Nooooo.. dream on lol
*he drank, and I didnt have to carry him. woot!*

It was a fun night!!

Karaoke session..

In Velvet,

And my farewell, before I left to Aus..

Everyone misses you :)

Lesson learned, treasure your friends and loved ones.. even for a minute. It'll be worthwhile when you look back, dead or alive. Life's unfair, everyone knows it.. and that's one thing we can't avoid. Going through it is a challenge, overcoming it is an achievement.. may our hearts stay strong.

Love,
Jin
